Role Description

The Airport Emergency Service (AES) is responsible for the mitigation of aerodrome emergencies such as aircraft accidents/incidents, development and execution of effective aerodrome emergency plans, as well as upholding a high level of fire safety standards at the aerodromes. As an Operations Commander, you will be trained to lead a world class aviation rescue and fire fighting unit at Changi Airport as the on-scene commander for all aircraft incidents and accidents. As part of career development, you will also have opportunities to take on various staff and command appointments throughout your career.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Assume command and control of all operations at an aircraft incident/accident site
  • Ensure first response to all emergencies including chemical, biological and radiological threats, hazardous materials incidents and structural fires in buildings
  • Assess priorities (life safety, incident stabilisation, property conservation, etc) to determine the strategy and tactics to be used in mitigation of incident/accident
  • Coordinate the tactical multi-agency response during a crisis
  • Plan and maintain the operational effectiveness of the unit under his/her charge
  • Ensure appropriate operational standards, procedures and operating practices are established and maintained
  • Set direction for the unit, with specific focus on the performance, development and training of the people under his/her charge
  • Plan and develop emergency response policies and procedures for 3-runway operations and eventual integration of Changi East and West

 

Requirements

  • Good university degree
  • Physically and medically fit with good eyesight
  • Composed under pressure, possess clarity of thought and an analytical mind
  • At least 8 – 10 years of relevant leadership experience in emergency response, crisis management and/or emergency planning/business continuity  policy
  • Excel in leadership and possess skills in people management especially in training, career development and succession planning
  • Have sound financial and contract management skills and knowledge of budgeting parameters
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain rapport across age, ethinicity and experience and with both internal and external customers
  • Have good understanding of international aviation standards and best practices
  • Willing to perform shift duties and work on weekends
